  • Responds to calls for service regarding accidents, emergencies, crimes, threats, altercations and/or requests for aid.
  • Interact with the public to provide information and promote good public relations.
  • Administer first aid to injured persons
  • Interview, interrogate and record statements from witnesses, suspects and victims.
  • Apprehend suspects by driving safely at high speeds, chasing suspects on foot, climbing over obstacles, physically subduing suspects and utilizing self-defense techniques.
  • Enforce traffic laws, directs traffic, issues citations and warnings.
  • Investigate accidents and accident scenes.
  • Investigate matters involving juveniles, reports of child neglect and juvenile delinquency.
  • Refer juveniles to the appropriate authorities.
  • Serve subpoenas, serves warrants, testifies in court, marks and stores evidence, apprehends suspects, makes arrests as prescribed by law, and confers with City/District Attorney's Office to provide information for case preparation.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited California Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Possess a current POST Basic Certificate. Copy of certificate must be submitted with application.
  • Currently employed and in good standing with a California Law Enforcement Agency.
  • High school graduation, GED or CHSPE equivalent (average score of 45 with no score below 35).
  • Good moral character with no felony convictions
  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident alien or is eligible for and has applied for citizenship at least one year prior to application date.
  • Must be in excellent physical condition and successfully complete a required medical examination which includes a psychiatric evaluation. You must meet acceptable vision, hearing, and weight standards.
  • Posses a valid California Class C driver's license.
  • Candidates hired into this position are required to live within 40 miles of the City of Glendale.
  • Successfully complete the P.A.T.

Education

A High school graduation or GED or CHSPE equivalent is required. A college degree is desirable.
