What is the most rewarding part about being a Police Officer?

The most rewarding part about being a Police Officer has been working with all the men and women of this department in changing the quality of life of the community through our actions. Police officers are able to make an impact on people’s lives and make a difference on a daily basis.

Why did you decide to become a Police Officer?

I became familiar with the police officers who patrolled my neighborhood, while growing up in Los Angeles. I was mostly impressed by a female police officer, who was always very nice to the children in my neighborhood. She was a very positive role model to me, and became the reason for my career choice. I like being able to give back to the community and being able to serve as a positive role model myself.

In addition, no two days are alike. I enjoy working with people and helping them solve their problems.

Can you briefly talk about your experience in law enforcement?

I started with the Glendale Police Department as a Police Cadet. As a Cadet, I had worked in the Budget and Property Bureau and the Community Policing Unit (COPPS). This was a great opportunity for me to begin working in the Department learning about police work while still going to school to earn my Bachelor’s degree.

I have been a police officer for eight years. I have spent most of my career in Patrol, which I really enjoyed because I love the adrenaline rush you get when responding to a “hot” call. I was assigned to the Community Policing Unit for a year and a half. Although it was much different than working patrol, I really enjoy having the time to meet people from the community we serve, and working with them to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods.

I was also assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau. In this assignment, I worked as a background investigator for prospective police officers and civilian employees. In addition, I assisted with the recruitment and outreach efforts for the Department.
